Kakumiro Police Arrest Suspected Murderer Of Lc1 Chairperson

Kakumiro District police arrested a suspect in the February 2026 murder of LC1 Chairperson Byaruhanga Benon.

Police in Kakumiro District have arrested a prime suspect in the murder of Gamugole village LC1 Chairperson, Byaruhanga Benon, who was killed in February 2026.

in an exclusive interview this morning, the  Albertine South Police spokesperson SP Julius Allan Hakiza said Byaruhanga was allegedly murdered by Twinawe John while on his way home from Gamugole Trading Centre in Nkoko Sub-county, Kakumiro District.

Hakiza said police registered a case following the murder and have since been conducting investigations, which led to the arrest of the suspect in Upper Cell, Amuru District.

The suspect was subsequently transported back to Kakumiro District to aid further investigations.

Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder are ongoing.

He condemned some police officers in Amuru District for allegedly failing to cooperate with security agencies in the Bunyoro region during the investigations.

Hakiza also commended members of the public for working closely with police and providing information that helped investigators trace and arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, SP Julius Allan Hakiza says police in Kakumiro District this morning intercepted two vehicles, registration numbers UA 602DA and UBR 653Y, carrying four cows suspected to have been stolen from Nkooko Sub-county.

Police also recovered a Premio vehicle, registration number UAZ 353Q, which is suspected to have been stolen.

Hakiza says the occupants abandoned the vehicles and fled the scene upon being intercepted by police.

He adds that a police team remains on the ground as investigations continue to trace and apprehend the suspects.
