There has been a call for unity and resilience among members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Mukono Municipality, following a meeting aimed at fostering reconciliation and solidarity in preparation for the 2026 elections.
The meeting, held at Ntawo, was marked by passionate discussions and strategic planning, led by Dr. Sarah Daisy Sonko Nabatanzi and John Ntale, who elaborated on the plans.
The gathering, chaired by NRM Chairperson Hajji Twahiri Ssebagala, took a tense turn when some NRM members were given the opportunity to voice their grievances. Chairperson Ssebagala and other senior NRM leaders intervened to calm the situation and urged members to focus on unity and discipline to overcome the challenges.
The meeting was attended by Kampala Central Mayor Salim Uhuru, who emphasized the importance of speaking out and instructed leaders to address internal divisions and combat complacency, which has hindered the NRM's performance in Mukono. Some NRM members expressed optimism, stating that this was a positive step toward strengthening the party.
Mike Seggwa, the Presidential Liaison Officer for Kasanda, emphasized the need for NRM members to remain united. He noted that in Mukono, individualism has been a challenge but urged members to start mobilizing at the grassroots level, identifying capable individuals to lead, as internal divisions have often been the root cause of their setbacks.
Hajjat Fatumah Ndisaba Nabitaka, the District Woman Member of Parliament, also spoke at the event, urging party members to remain steadfast and avoid actions that could lead to the party's defeat in future elections.
Richard Todwongo, the National Vice Chairperson of the NRM, highlighted the need for leaders to reflect on their actions, as poor performance in elections has led to the defeat of many NRM candidates. He urged members to work together and avoid favoring external influences.
Hajjat Ssebagala Twahir, the NRM District Chairperson, also addressed the meeting, emphasizing the importance of addressing internal conflicts and resolving issues that have weakened the party.
