Mubende, Uganda – Tensions are rising within the NRM party in Buwekula South, Mubende District, as local leaders caution against nominating nonperforming candidates for the upcoming 2026 elections. Â
Â
Michael Nuwagira "Toyota" (Vice Chairperson, PLU) criticised some NRM leaders for failing to serve constituents, warning that voters will reject them. Â
He accused such leaders of misleading the government by pretending to deliver services while doing little for communities. Â
"The era of leaders who don’t work for the people is over," Toyota declared at a NRM mobilisation event in Kassana, Buwekula South. Â
Â
Dedan Mubangizi, an NRM-leaning People’s League for Unity (PLU) member, is vying for the Buwekula South MP seat. Â
He urged voters to elect leaders with a proven track record, not just party loyalty. Â
"NRM supporters must be wise—don’t just give anyone the flag," Mubangizi emphasised. Â
Â
Thomas Ayinebyona (Mubende NRM Chairperson) stressed the need for united campaigns (kakuyege) to avoid divisions. Â
He warned aspirants against early campaigning, saying the party will enforce discipline. Â
Â
Performance Over Politics: Voters are increasingly demanding tangible results, not just party affiliation. Â
NRM’s Internal Rifts: The debate exposes growing frustration with ineffective leaders. Â
2026 Elections: Buwekula South could become a battleground if NRM fields weak candidates. Â
