NRM Electoral Commission has continued to disqualify aspirants vying for positions in the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC)
The NRM Electoral Commission, chaired by Dr. Tanga Odoi, has announced an extension of voting for the flag bearer elections by one day, shifting the original date from July 16 to July 17. The decision was communicated during a press briefing at the NRM Electoral Commission offices on Plot 13, Kyadondo Road. Dr. Odoi explained that the adjustment was necessary due to the national elections for People with Disabilities (PWDs) scheduled for July 16, which required logistical considerations. Â
The commission also issued strict campaign guidelines, warning that no candidate will be permitted to campaign unless officially cleared. Those who violate these rules risk disqualification. However, some candidates have already been granted permission to campaign after presenting valid reasons to the commission. Â
Meanwhile, the NRM Electoral Commission has continued to disqualify aspirants vying for positions in the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC). Among those recently disqualified is Philip Kakuru, who sought to lead the youth league, and Adrian Kobusingye, who was aiming to lead the NRM Women’s League.Â

Tensions have risen as disqualified candidates protest the decision, accusing the commission of unfairness. Some have vowed to challenge the ruling, while others claim the process is being manipulated to favor certain individuals. Â
In a related development, Jordan Asiimwe, one of the disqualified aspirants, had hoped to contest for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda. His disqualification has sparked reactions, with many other candidates also being blocked from competing for various party positions. Â
Looking ahead, on Friday, July 5, NRM Chairman and national leader Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (YKM) is expected to submit his nomination papers to officially declare his candidacy for the 2026 presidential elections. If successful, he will also retain his position as NRM chairman for another five-year term.
