NRM Election Dispute Erupts Between Minister Namuganza and MP Naigaga

A heated confrontation unfolded between State Minister Persis Namuganza and Namutumba Woman MP Mariam Naigaga before NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi. The dispute centers on contested results for the NRM district chairperson position in Namutumba, where Simon Menya (aligned with Namuganza) reportedly defeated Naigaga 489-180 votes.

Naigaga rejected the outcome, alleging electoral irregularities, while Namuganza accused her of undermining democratic processes. Dr. Odoi attempted mediation but suspended the final decision pending further investigation, giving both factions until June 4 to resolve their differences before fresh elections.

The standoff mirrors recent NRM conflicts in Sembabule, where Odoi similarly intervened to quell factional disputes. Naigaga's camp maintains they will await the commission's final verdict, while Namuganza's supporters insist the results stand.
