President Yoweri Museveni has called on African nations to embrace unity, industrialization, and self-reliance as the foundation for prosperity. Speaking to a delegation from Zimbabwe’s National Defence University at State Lodge Nakasero, Museveni stressed that true wealth comes from producing and selling goods, not relying on aid.
He outlined Uganda’s ideological journey since the 1960s, when the NRM rejected sectarianism and promoted patriotism as a tool for development. “Love Uganda because you need it for your prosperity,” Museveni said, noting that tribalism limits economic growth.
The President emphasized Pan-Africanism, explaining that Uganda’s growing production now demands wider regional markets. “Love Africa because you need it for your prosperity,” he added, urging stronger economic cooperation among African nations.
Museveni also called for socio-economic transformation through modern technology and regional political integration for strategic security. He warned that development without unity leaves Africa vulnerable to external threats.
Brig. Gen. Francis Chakauya of Zimbabwe commended Museveni’s insights, while UPDF’s Brig. Gen. Wycliffe Keita led the Ugandan side. The visit highlighted Uganda’s commitment to sharing its development experience with fellow African states.
