Mpunga Village Residents Protest Against Local Council Chairperson Over Mismanagement

Residents of Mpunga Village in Wakiso Town Council have staged a protest against their Local Council (LC) Chairperson, Ndawula David, accusing him of misusing his office and engaging in corrupt practices. The protest turned chaotic, prompting police intervention to restore order.

The demonstration was sparked by allegations of mismanagement, including embezzlement of village funds, misuse of the village stamp, collusion with thieves, and mistreatment of residents. The situation escalated when residents confronted Ndawula, leading to a tense standoff.

Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Muwanga Lutaaya intervened to calm the situation, warning residents against taking the law into their own hands. He urged them to follow proper channels to address their grievances and assured them that the matter would be investigated.

Following the intervention, residents were given an opportunity to voice their concerns. They accused Ndawula and his committee of failing to serve the community and demanded their immediate removal from office. The residents also called for the village stamp, which is currently held at Katwe Police Station, to be returned to the community.

Ndawula, however, dismissed the allegations, claiming that they were politically motivated. He laughed off the accusations and denied any wrongdoing.

Police have since taken over the matter, with legal experts in the area advising against any actions that could lead to further unrest. The authorities have assured residents that a thorough investigation will be conducted to address the allegations.

The protest highlights growing tensions between local leaders and residents in Mpunga Village, with calls for transparency and accountability in the management of community resources.
