Members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary caucus convened today at the party chairman’s residence in Entebbe to discuss the proposed 2025-2026 electoral roadmap. The meeting, chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, aimed to gather input from lawmakers and ensure a smooth and inclusive electoral process.
Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua emphasized the importance of avoiding the controversies that arose last year when the President declined to sign the initial electoral roadmap. He recalled the heated debates in Parliament and the public outcry that followed, urging the caucus to work towards a consensus this time.
Obua highlighted the ongoing consultations, including engagements with the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) under the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant stakeholders. He noted that the Cabinet had already reviewed and approved the roadmap, but further refinements are necessary following a recent Supreme Court ruling on electoral matters.
The meeting underscores the NRM’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and well-organized electoral process. As the 2025-2026 elections approach, the party is focused on addressing potential challenges and fostering unity among its members and the wider public.
