Minister Nabakooba Calls for Unity in Families to Combat Domestic Instability

The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Judith Nalule Nabakooba, has emphasized the need for unity and stability within families, particularly to protect children from the negative effects of domestic instability. The minister made these remarks during the International Women’s Day celebrations held at Mwera-Nsero Kakindu Grounds in Mityana District.

The event, organized under the theme "Empowering Women for a Better Future," was attended by various leaders, including District Khadi Sheikh Ali Kasaliko, religious leaders, and local government officials. Minister Nabakooba, alongside State Minister for Gender and Social Development, Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko, led the celebrations, which included tree planting and discussions on women’s empowerment.

Sarah Nanyunja Munaani, the head of the women’s association in Busujju Sub-County, highlighted the need for government support to establish vocational training centers for women. She called for programs that teach skills such as tailoring, weaving, and soap making to empower women economically.

Israel Lubega Maaso, the Chairperson of Busujju Sub-County, urged men to take responsibility for their families and support their children’s education. He emphasized the importance of shared responsibilities in achieving family stability.

District Khadi Sheikh Ali Kasaliko expressed concern over the increasing cases of domestic instability and its impact on women and children. He called for collective efforts to address the issue and promote harmony within families.

Minister Nabakooba commended President Museveni and the Kabaka of Buganda for their efforts in empowering women through various government programs. She urged women to take advantage of initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) to improve their livelihoods.

The minister also visited Namungo Village in Mityana District, where she attended a meeting with the Mityana Women Maize Farmers Cooperative Society. The cooperative, which has over 400 members, is seeking government support to expand its operations and
