Government Hands Over Vehicles To Cultural Leaders In Landmark Ceremony

The vehicles are expected to enhance the cultural leaders’ outreach, enabling them to champion development initiatives at the grassroots.

Hoima, Uganda – In a historic event underscoring the government’s commitment to cultural preservation, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development today handed over brand-new vehicles to cultural leaders across Uganda. The ceremony, presided over by [Chief Guest’s Name], emphasised the critical role of traditional institutions in national development and unity.

Hon. Betty Amongi, Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, hailed the initiative as a milestone in strengthening collaboration between the government and cultural institutions. “These vehicles will enhance your mobility as you serve your communities and preserve our rich heritage,” she stated.  

The Chief Guest, delivering a message from President Yoweri Museveni, reiterated the government’s recognition of cultural leaders as key partners in fostering peace, unity, and socio-economic transformation. “Our ancestors laid the foundation for Uganda’s unity by bringing clans together. Today, we honour that legacy,” he said.  

 
The event took place against the backdrop of Uganda’s enduring stability, which regional leaders have praised for its positive impact across East Africa. The Chief Guest shared insights from his recent diplomatic mission to Brazil, where global leaders commended President Museveni’s leadership in maintaining peace.  

With the 2026 elections approaching, cultural leaders were urged to mobilise their subjects to support continuity in governance. “Your voices are vital in ensuring the sustainability of programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are lifting millions out of poverty,” the Chief Guest emphasised.  

 
A highlight of the ceremony was the appeal to gazette and protect Uganda’s cultural sites. The Chief Guest proposed a joint effort between the Ministry of Gender and the Ministry of Tourism to document and promote these landmarks, boosting cultural tourism.  

 
The newly handed-over vehicles are expected to enhance the cultural leaders’ outreach, enabling them to champion development initiatives at the grassroots. As the event concluded, leaders expressed gratitude for the government’s support and reaffirmed their commitment to national progress.
