Bwanika to Run as Independent in Busiro South

Dr Matia Lwanga Bwanika leaves NUP, runs as an independent for the Busiro South seat.

WAKISO, UGANDA – Following his failure to secure the party flag, the former Chairman of Wakiso District, Dr Matia Lwanga Bwanika, has officially announced his decision to leave the National Unity Platform (NUP) and run as an independent candidate for the Busiro South parliamentary seat.

This move comes a day after the party finalised its candidate list, from which he was conspicuously omitted. Bwanika cited a lack of transparency and "backdoor dealings" in the party's distribution of flags as the reason for his departure.

"He has left due to the lack of fairness and the backdoor dealings that were mentioned in the distribution of party flags."

Bwanika stated that his constituency has a history of lagging in development and that his constituents have implored him to run in order to instigate change.

"He said their constituency has been historical and has started going backwards, and that the residents have asked him to stand so that he can be the one [to represent them]."

He also outlined his parliamentary agenda, stating that he aims to advocate for Local Governments, which he says receive insufficient funding for the vast amount of work they are expected to perform.
