Government Doctors at Kisenyi Hospital Protest Poor Working Conditions

Kisenyi, Uganda – Medical workers at Kisenyi Government Hospital have raised alarm over severe shortages of essential supplies, calling on Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) through its leadership to urgently intervene.

Critical Equipment Shortages Hamper Service Delivery
Led by hospital director Dr. Prossy Semogerere, the doctors revealed that despite the overwhelming patient numbers, the facility lacks basic medical tools. "Even when we try our best, the lack of equipment makes it hard to provide proper care for patients from Kisenyi and Kampala," she said.

The situation is worsened by KCCA’s alleged mismanagement, which has left the hospital in dire condition.

 Mothers, Newborns at Risk
- Maternity ward struggles: Pregnant women are forced to deliver in poorly equipped theaters.
- Neonatal emergencies: Incubators for premature babies are scarce, and a critical jaundice treatment machine (phototherapy unit) is missing.
- Oxygen crisis: Dr. Sarah Zalwango confirmed that the hospital’s oxygen supply recently failed, forcing referrals to Naguru Hospital.

 KCCA Responds
After meeting with protesting doctors, KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki acknowledged the issues and promised swift action. "What they’ve raised is urgent, and we must act quickly because Ugandans deserve better healthcare," she said.

Sharifah Buzeki added that the authority plans to construct additional water reservoirs to improve sanitation—though city residents remain skeptical due to past delays.

 Doctors’ Demands
✔ Immediate restocking of medical supplies
✔ Repair/replacement of broken equipment (incubators, oxygen machines, phototherapy units)
✔ Increased funding and oversight from KCCA

As pressure mounts, patients and medics alike wait to see if these promises will translate into real change.
