In an effort to improve the quality of education in Mukono Municipality, the municipal council has launched an initiative to inspect and assess various schools, particularly those with dilapidated infrastructure.
The inspection began in Goma Division, targeting schools such as Nsambwe C/U and Kiwango UMEA. Each school was evaluated by two teams, and the exercise is expected to cost over 200 million shillings.
During the inspection at Nsambwe C/U, Rhondah Titwe Kaggaga, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and Deputy Presidential Representative for Mukono Municipality, emphasized the importance of the initiative. She urged school management committees, local leaders, and stakeholders to sensitize parents about the value of educating their children. She also directed leaders to address the issue of children engaging in scrap metal collection instead of attending school.
Kaggaga further called on those involved in the initiative to perform their duties diligently and to treat the children in the schools with respect and dignity.
Francis Byabagambi, the Mukono Municipal Government Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), encouraged school administrators to monitor teachers' attendance and performance. He also urged parents to take an active role in their children's education.
Faridah Nasolo, the Municipal Education Officer, and Haruna Ssenkadduka, the Municipal Engineer, explained the objectives of the initiative, which include providing schools with better infrastructure. They also outlined the necessary steps to achieve these goals.
The inspection team was accompanied by local council leaders, particularly those from the municipal council, who pledged their support for the initiative.
The exercise highlights the dire state of some schools in Mukono Municipality, with many pupils studying under poor conditions. The municipal council's efforts aim to address these challenges and improve the learning environment for students.
