Uganda's U-17 national team, the Cubs, arrived home to a heroes' welcome on Tuesday, 15th April 2025, after securing the country's first-ever qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup during the AFCON U-17 tournament in Morocco.
The triumphant team was hosted at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala for a celebratory breakfast attended by FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, who led the delegation alongside FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and Executive Committee Member Ronnie Kalema.
"This is our golden generation," declared President Magogo. "These boys have made history, and we will spare no effort in preparing them for the global stage in Qatar."
Under the astute leadership of head coach Brian Ssenyondo, the Cubs delivered a series of impressive performances at the AFCON U-17 tournament. Their campaign reached its climax with a dramatic victory over The Gambia in positions play-offs that secured one of Africa's 10 slots at the upcoming World Cup.
The 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar will be the biggest edition yet, featuring:
