A group of youth and women engaged in small-scale food vending in Lubaga Division's Busega, Mutundwe, Kibuye, and Ndeeba areas is calling for support from the government's wealth creation programs.
The vendors, who sell items like chapati, meals, chips, and fruits such as pineapples and bananas, have asked local leaders to present their needs to the Office of the President.
They are seeking assistance similar to that extended to other groups in different parts of Kampala engaged in comparable businesses. Their appeal was channelled through their  Chairman, James Baganda.
Baganda explains that he has forwarded the concerns of these hardworking youth and women to the Youth Wealth Creation Program desk in the Office of the President, seeking recognition and support for their work.

These vendors distinguish themselves by cooking with gas. They say this aligns with President Museveni's directive to adopt environmentally friendly practices by moving away from using firewood (manda). They add that this method is also recognised and approved by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), and they are willing to train others in this approach.
(A vendor explains their use of gas for cooking, citing environmental concerns and KCCA's awareness of their model.)
The food vending business is a major source of employment, especially for educated youth without formal office jobs and women supporting their households. However, Chairman Baganda notes that despite the business's potential, it faces significant challenges.
(He states that while the business is profitable, the obstacles faced by the vendors are substantial and require attention.)
In response, Mr Faizo Ndase, the head of the Youth Wealth Creation Program in the Office of the President, acknowledged receipt of the vendors' plea. He commended them for their self-reliant and diligent work.
Ndase confirms the request has been received and praises the group's industriousness.
Mr Ndase clarified that due to legal restrictions during the election period, his office is currently prohibited from distributing any form of assistance.
He assured the group that support would be considered immediately after the elections concluded.
He explains the legal embargo on aid distribution during elections and promises to act soon after the polling period.
Concluding his message, Mr Ndase, via the President's Office Head of Finance, Jane Barekye, urged the youth and women to vote for President Yoweri Museveni in the January 15, 2026, elections.
He argued that re-electing the President would ensure the continuity of the government and its ability to address their requests.
Ndase calls on the vendors to support President Museveni's re-election, stating it would enable the government to fulfil their demands.
