The Savings Group Initiated by National Leader Janet Kataha Museveni, a Women's Empowerment Initiative in Lubaga Division, Gains Momentum and Celebrates Today with 2,170 Members and Growing.

Maama Janet Kataha Museveni initiated this group in 2022 and launched it in the division of Lubaga. The aim is to lift WOMEN out of poverty and teach them savings methodologies. The methodology Maama Janet introduced is one she learned from the country of Bangladesh.

The group celebrated today as women from Lubaga Division, plus Nakawa Division and other surrounding areas of Kampala district, turned up in large numbers to join the Gramen Empowerment group. They are now actively saving and contributing money collectively.

Musa Mbaziira, who was tasked with heading this group and is also the Speaker of Lubaga Division, is currently holding the NRM flag for the Lubaga South parliamentary seat. Speaking at the group's general meeting, he outlined the year's plans and clarified the group's objectives, which include empowering women to participate in development.

Mbaziira stated that in this programme, they have just completed 3 years. However, they have hope that by the time they serve 10 years, they will have transformed the lives of many Ugandans indeed.

According to Mbaziira, Maama Janet Museveni guided him that this Gramen group will be incorporated into the government as a recognised government institution. This will enable the women to borrow the money they save without needing collateral.

There are also new laws coming that will help women, not just by rotating the money but also by allowing them to access their saved funds to aid their savings goals.

The women expressed their gratitude regarding this savings methodology. They thanked First Lady Janet Museveni for pioneering this initiative for them, and stated that they already see a difference in their household incomes.

Although it was started on a foundation for women, even youth and men are being given the chance to join. They also commend Maama Janet Kataha Museveni for being a reliable source of credit, as they can now borrow from their accumulated savings.
