Uganda to increase fish production to 1.7 metric tones
Uganda is intending to increase its fish export to 1.7 metric tons come to 2030.According to the ministries projection  1 million is this is to be aqua while 700,000 will be captured fish.Curently Uganda exports 130,000 metric tones annually under this 65800 is captured making the industry to be the second largest foreign exchange earner.
This was disclosed by the assistant commissioner Andrew Alio while addressing the press at the media center in Kampala.He has accompanied the minister of state for fisheries Hellen Ondoa.
Flanked by the ministries commissioner Ondoa stated that currently the ministry earns 152 million dollars as exports.
The minister further adds that half of this is domestically consumed.
However  the ministers has  regretted isolated  incidents of  mis conduct by the fisheries protection unit which she attributed to luck of manpower where the unit ends uo hiring machineries. She however pledged the ministries to hand over impounded materials next week.
The minister has also confirmed the president to open up a fish feed factory in September which is to be the first of its kind thereby increasing feed production in the country.
Meanwhile Uganda will be hosting the regional fish conference which is slated for 24th, 27th of this month at resort hotel Munyonyo.The chairperson for the organizing committee Anthony Taabu explains.
