Wakiso District Launches Poultry and Goat Rearing Initiative to Combat Poverty

The Office of the Presidential Representative in Wakiso District has spearheaded a major empowerment program, distributing over 1,500 chickens and 50 goats to residents as part of government efforts to boost household incomes. Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Justin Mbabazi personally oversaw the distribution at the District Headquarters, emphasising President Museveni's vision for wealth creation at the grassroots level.

Each beneficiary received either poultry or small livestock starter packs. Recipients include vulnerable groups and low-income families;  District agricultural officers will provide ongoing technical support; Program monitoring to ensure proper utilisation of the animals

RDC Mbabazi warned beneficiaries against selling or consuming the distributed animals, stating, "These are not for short-term meals but long-term investments to lift your families out of poverty." The initiative forms part of the broader Parish Development Model implementation across Wakiso District.

Local coordinators Ritah Nalongo Kizito and Aisha Lusuuka confirmed the program's rollout to all sub-counties, with plans for regular progress assessments. "We're tracking how these animals multiply to transform household economies," Kizito explained.
