Major boost for Uganda's agricultural sector

In a major boost for Uganda's agricultural sector, a high-level delegation of investors has arrived in the country, expressing a strong interest in the cocoa industry. This follows President Museveni's recent campaign encouraging local farmers to take up cocoa farming.

The twelve investors, who touched down at Entebbe International Airport, are from South Korea. They were received by the coordinator for Ugandan and Korean investors, Karim Karamaji, alongside officials from the Ministry of Trade.

The delegation's visit marks a significant step forward. Coordinator Karim Karamaji stated that these investors are prepared to buy Ugandan cocoa at excellent prices. Their plan is to first enhance the quality of the produce locally before exporting it.

Mr. Karamaji emphasized that this investment didn't happen overnight. He revealed that the investors first conducted thorough research to confirm Uganda's stability before committing to come and invest in the cocoa sector.

Beyond the cocoa deal, Mr. Karamaji also shared an exciting opportunity for Ugandans looking to work abroad. He announced that South Korea is currently in need of workers and encouraged those seeking international employment to consider the opportunities available there.

The five-day visit is packed with high-level engagements. Emmanuel Atwine, a Commissioner from the Ministry of Trade, explained that the trip will culminate in the signing of agreements. These deals will not only cover investments in cocoa but will also be expanded to include coffee and even the energy sector.

Mr. Atwine added that these new partnerships are expected to create more opportunities within Uganda, and he urged Ugandans to position themselves to benefit.

Leading the investor delegation is Dr. Kim Jinbo, who reaffirmed South Korea's strong and positive relationship with the Ugandan government. He expressed confidence that the business between the two nations will continue to grow and flourish.
