Thieves Vandalise Power Lines In Mityana

Thieves have affected three villages in the sub-county of Ssekanyonyi, where power lines were cut from poles, and residents reported the incident along with a vehicle, a UBG 672L, which was abandoned in the area. The residents have been concerned about these incidents in Kikangula village.

Residents from villages including Kigangula, Mmonde, and Magala in the Ssekanyonyi sub-county expressed their fear following the cutting of power lines by Thieveswho stripped wires from poles.

They reported that at around 2 AM, a vehicle traveling at night was abandoned, with some occupants fleeing and others being caught while attempting to cut wires from the power lines.

The chairperson of Ssekanyonyi village, Kamoga, stated that by 2 AM, they had contacted the Ssekanyonyi police, who proceeded to Kigangula village to provide additional security to the affected residents, including work cards of the power line Thievesand the abandoned vehicle.

He explained that those caught were suspected to be employees of the electricity authority.

Residents noted that this was not the first incident, as such Thieveshave been coming to their area and stealing power lines from poles.

The police arrived and took possession of the vehicle and the power lines, which were then transported to the Ssekanyonyi police station.

Areas such as Mityana, Kiboga, and Kassanda continue to face challenges with the theft of power lines from poles.
