Kisimu Village residents apprehended a notorious thief.
NANSANA MUNICIPALITY – Tired of enduring persistent theft, residents of Kisimu Village, Nabweru Division, took matters into their own hands by apprehending a notorious young thief who had been terrorising the community. Â
The suspect, Derick Muwanguzi, 22, was caught early this morning after breaking into the home of Senjala Jao, stealing household items. He was captured alongside an accomplice, Sekitto Joseph, following a swift community response. Â
"When we checked the house in the morning, everything was gone. But luckily, neighbours had seen Muwanguzi lurking around," said Senjala Jao, the victim. Â
Enraged residents cornered Muwanguzi, beating him severely before local council leader Kijjambu Ali Mubiru intervened and handed him over to police. Â

In a remarkable recovery operation, authorities seized a substantial haul of stolen goods from the rented room of Muwanguzi. The recovered items include six flat-screen televisions, 420 pairs of shoes, numerous clothing items, including women’s dresses, and breaking tools such as hammers and crowbars. Â
The sheer volume of stolen items left villagers stunned, with many realising their missing belongings had been taken by the same thief. Â
"This isn’t his first time—Muwanguzi has been stealing for a long time, but today, he finally got caught," said one resident. Â
Kijjambu Ali Mubiru, the area security chairperson, confirmed that Muwanguzi has a history of theft and urged residents to pursue legal action rather than mob justice. Â
"We handed him to the police. Now, victims should go to court and testify so he can face full punishment," Mubiru stated. Â
Residents say theft has been rampant in Kisimu Village, calling for increased police patrols to curb the rising crime rate. Â
Authorities are now tracking down other possible accomplices and victims to build a stronger case. Â
