Police in Namisindwa arrested two suspects, including the LC1 Chairperson of Bumwango Village, for stealing eight computers from Namboko Seed Secondary School.
NAMISINDWA DISTRICT – Police in Namisindwa are holding the LC1 Chairperson of Bumwango Village, Haluma Rogers, in connection with the theft of eight computers from Namboko Seed Secondary School. The suspect, who also worked as a security guard at the school, was arrested alongside another suspect, Wanyakala Martin, while a third accomplice remains at large.
According to the police spokes person of elgon region SP Rogers taitika said that incident occurred in the early hours of July 29, 2025, at Namboko Seed School in Bumwango Village, Wambigo Parish. According to reports, Haluma Rogers, who was on duty as the school’s security guard, allegedly left his post at midnight to check on his wife at their home, about 100 meters away. When he returned at 3:00 AM, he discovered that the computer library had been broken into and eight computers stolen.
By 6:00 AM, Haluma alerted the LC3 Chairperson, who then informed the school’s head teacher. A report was filed at Bubutu Police Post, prompting an investigation.
A K9 unit from Mbale was deployed to the scene, and the police dog tracked the scent directly to Haluma Rogers’ house. Further tracking led to the recovery of abandoned stolen items, including computer cables, pliers (magalo), and computer covers, about 50 meters from the crime scene.
Police investigators found no forced entry on the school’s metallic doors, suggesting an inside job. The main entrance, locked with Haluma’s keys, remained intact, while the rear exit door was cut. Thieves stole eight computers from a lab after entering through the main door, exiting through the back, and cutting cables. CCTV cameras were off.
Police are intensifying efforts to recover the stolen computers and apprehend the third suspect. The arrested individuals, Haluma Rogers and Wanyakala Martin, are being held as investigations continue.
Rogers Taitika, Pro Elgon Region, will provide updates as more details.
