Three suspects were arrested in Kasese District for two homicide cases.
Kasese District Police have detained three suspects in connection with two separate homicide cases that occurred within Kasese Municipality. The arrests come as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of 33-year-old Simon Kutegeka and an unidentified victim of mob justice.
The first case occurred at Plus II Guest House in Kamulikwizi Cell, Nyamwamba Division. The second involved mob violence in Kahokya Cell, Kirembe Ward, Central Division
Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime addressed journalists at Kasese Central Police Station, stating: "We've made preliminary arrests to gather more information about Kutegeka's death while pursuing other persons of interest."
Guest House Case: Three suspects in custody (names withheld for security reasons)
Mob Justice Incident: No arrests yet; victim's body taken to Kasese Municipal HC III for autopsy
SP Tumushime strongly condemned vigilante justice: "Mob actions not only violate the right to life but also compromise our investigative processes." Police are appealing to relatives of the unidentified victim to come forward.
Authorities have requested that the public adhere to the following guidelines: Report any suspicious activities through designated official channels. Refrain from taking matters into their own hands.
Provide any relevant information regarding both incidents.
The cases highlight growing concerns about violent crime resolution methods in the region as police work to balance community security with proper judicial procedures.
