Kampala Police Launch Metropolitan-Wide Crackdown, Arrest Over 170 in Anti-Gang Operations

Kampala Metropolitan Police arrested over 170 suspects in a crackdown on criminal gangs, narcotics, and black spots. The operations targeted networks involved in robberies, phone snatching, and drug abuse.

In a coordinated series of security operations across multiple divisions, the Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested more than 170 suspects in a major crackdown targeting criminal gangs, narcotics, and black spots. The operations, which took place between November 3 and 4, 2025, aimed to dismantle networks involved in robberies, phone snatching, and drug abuse.

In Old Kampala Division, 75 suspects were arrested during overnight operations in areas including Wagaba Zone, Owino, Kisenyi, and Kafumbe Mukasa. They were charged with possession of dangerous weapons, intent to commit a felony, and possession of opium. Similar efforts in the Kira Road Division led to the arrest of 13 individuals linked to opium use and attacks on citizens, particularly along the bypass.

Kira Division saw 19 arrests in Bweyogerere Central, Kitikutwe, and Kungu zones, where police recovered opium and a panga suspected of use in robberies. In Nansana Division, 34 suspects were detained at Lubigi Police Station for possession of narcotics, following public outcry over phone snatching and burglaries.

Jinja Road Division rounded up 16 suspects in Katoogo and Kago, known black spots in Kinawataka, while Kajjansi Division arrested 21 individuals and seized marijuana, cash from drug sales, and related paraphernalia in Bweya, Jjanyi, and Kitende.

Police spokesperson SSP Onyango confirmed the operations were intelligence-led and involved collaboration with local defence units. He emphasised that such disruptive actions will continue to ensure public safety and dismantle criminal networks across the region.
