Fuel Pump Worker Killed in Mukono Amid Rising Insecurity

Residents of Nabuti Village in Mukono Central Division are living in fear following a surge in violent crimes, including the recent murder of a fuel pump worker. The victim, identified as Emanuel Odongo, was attacked and killed by unknown assailants while working at a fuel pump in the area.

The incident occurred late at night when a group of assailants attacked Odongo, leaving him fatally injured. His body was discovered early in the morning, and security personnel transported it to Mulago Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Residents reported that the attackers appeared to have targeted Odongo, possibly due to the money he had on him at the time.

The murder has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Nabuti. Residents accuse the police of failing to dismantle criminal gangs that have been terrorizing the community. Some youths are reportedly involved in theft and vandalism, further exacerbating the problem.

Twahir Isabirye, the local defense secretary for Nabuti, revealed that residents had attempted to raise funds to hire private security guards, but the initiative did not materialize. He also criticized the owner of the fuel pump for not providing adequate security for the workers.
In a related incident, a teacher who witnessed the attack narrowly escaped harm. He reported that the assailants had initially targeted a car, smashing its windows before turning their attention to Odongo. Fearing for his life, the teacher fled the scene.

Police have launched an investigation into the murder and are working to identify the perpetrators. However, residents remain concerned about the lack of security in the area, which has allowed criminal gangs to operate with impunity.

As the community mourns the loss of Odongo, calls for improved security measures and increased police presence in Nabuti have grown louder. Residents are urging authorities to take immediate action to restore safety and prevent further tragedies.
