Speaker Appeals to Government to Finance the Sex Offences Bill

The Right honorable speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has appealed to the government to put aside more money for the sex offenses bill; however, the speaker noted that the bill was tabled, discussed in parliament and ready to be passed but the report from schools revealed more issues lacking in the bill.

The speaker in a meeting with Uganda women parliamentary association, students and others from different parts of the world who came to express their views on this particular bill.

However, the speaker asserted that the bill even after passed as a law could not be effective as long as the police have no funds to implement it.

At the same occasion, members appreciated the speaker for efforts and measures taken including sending a committee to schools for further investigations.

Justine Kayinza MP from Bududa advised that the report from schools should be put into consideration.

Matiya Kasaija finance minister said that he is ready to avail the money the bill once it gets to his office.

Pamela Kamogo the chairperson for the committee assured that she would support this report because the widespread vice needs check.
