National social security fund NSSF finance manager Stephen Mwanje has been tasked to explain how the computed funds amounting to 600 million shillings were given to former board members upon resigning.
Mwanje appeared as a witness to respond to queries surrounding finances that have affected the operation of the fund.
The committee chaired by Mbarara city Mp Mwine Mpaka questioned why the two board members who were forced to retire after the fund was restructured were instead paid fewer funds as compared to what is reflected in the books of accounts.
According to the statement which was released, the two board members were supposed to get 312 million shillings however they instead recovered only 175 million shillings. While responding to the queries Mwanje stated that the payment was subjected to taxation where 12 million shillings was subjected to taxation and 5% which was meant to go for NSSF leaving 137 million shillings which were left as balance.
However, the MPs including Bwamba east Mp Richard Gafabusa questioned who authorized this transaction . Other committee members included Ntebe municipality Mp Michael Mbwatekamwa asked which formula was used to come up with this figure.
But Mwanje distance himself from authorizing the transaction saying it was approved by the legal team.
Eelier on the committee has interfaces with one of the beneficiaries Rogers Baimuka who confirmed receiving this amount but never questioned it.
The committee also questioned the 220 billion shillings that the funds were used for operations. Under this Baimika singles the 800 million shillings which were given t all about the organization but filed to account for one billion saying it was pressure from above.
