Rukungiri municipality MP Roland Kaginda tasked the minister of transport to explain why up to now the ministry has failed to deliver the remaining planes yet she had told parliament that the planes were supposed to procure by 1st July. Mugume also told parliament that the Canadian company that was supposed to supply the planes were already sold to a Japanese company, which fueled speculations that Uganda would lose.
However, by press time, there was no minister to respond to the matter forcing the speaker to summon the three ministers.
But later the state minister for transport Katumba Wamala defended the ministry saying there was supposed to be modalities that were supposed to be followed such as forming a board.
This has sparked an angry response from MPs who include Koyetera woman MP Robinah Sentongo who wondered why the government does not consider priorities.
But the chairperson for infrastructure Kafeero Sekitooleko pledged to summon the minister to explain; Gerald Rwemurikye asked why the government doesn’t stick to its word.
Meanwhile, the Public accounts committee has put to task judiciary accounting officer Kagole Kivumbi to explain why he retained the old stuff after she was appointed in this position. According to the law, officers are supposed to work for only three years and later transferred to another position. This was a matter that was raised by the auditor general report, which indicated that he could have had ill motives that lead to the poor performance of the judiciary.
The legislators including Kalungu west MP Sewungu Gonzaga, Tororo County MP Fredrick Angura and Badaadiri east MP Nandala Mafaabi were not contented with the explanation.
Among the officers who were retained beyond the specified time include a procurement officer, internal auditor and engineer. However, Kagole reasoned that the government had blocked him from making any recruitment.
Kagole was appearing with Chief Registrar Ester Mbayo were appearing on the committee which is chaired by Budadiri east MP Nandala Mafaabi, the committee members who included Tororo south constituency Fredrick Angura also questioned him why he transferred money to personal accounts which were amounting over 300billion shillings causing financial anomalies to the sector.
The legislators were also concerned in the manner under which five judges who were appointed denied privileges which forced file charges pining over not having a clear budget strategy. However the chief register Nambayo told the committee that the matter was resolved after court settled it out.
