Residents in Distress As Water Scarcity in Rubirizi District Persists

The scarcity of clean water in Rubirizi district western Uganda caused by the ongoing road construction has enraged the residents.

Works on Ishama-Katunguru road left water pipes damaged and they have resorted to the lake as their source of water.

Sunday Kevin the parish Chairperson, said that the failure to relocate the water pipes by the two concerned government bodies, National Water and Uganda National Roads Authority is the primary cause.

Twesigye Robert, a resident of Nyakasharu Town Council, argued the two government bodies to provide Water Tank Truck in the meantime as they work to restore the water supply.

However, Hon. Twesigye Ntamuhiira John, Bunyaruguru County Member Of Parliament, who is also concerned with the situation, said that he is in contact with the two bodies to rectify this problem.

Nakamya Harriet, RDC Rubirizi district, told the residents that she spoke with the National water officials and blamed the local contractor whose work is behind the deadline.

She cautioned the residents to be careful with the crocodiles in the Lake where they fetch water now.

Currently, the 20litre jerrycan costs Shs1000 and boda-boda riders are taking advantage of the situation.
