The Inaugural Coffee Marathon Officially announced

Over fifty participants are set to compete in the Coffee Marathon,unveiled today by Inspire Africa during an event at Tweed Towers in Nakasero

This marathon is organized by the Inspire Africa Coffee group that runs a coffee factory in Rwashamire town council in Ntungamo district.
At least Ug.Shs 2 billion is targeted from this marathon whose start and finishing points will be at the Inspire Africa Coffee Park in Kabuhungu hills, Rwashamire town council.

The marathon, scheduled for the 24th of next month aims to promote coffee farming, particularly among rural women in Uganda and across Africa. Nelson Tugume, CEO of Inspire Africa and event coordinator, outlined the race categories: 5km, 10km, 21km, 42km.
Former world steeplechase athlete Dorcus Inzikuru will be one of the participants.
Apollo Musherure, an official from Uganda Athletics Federation and in charge of routes, noted that international runners will also join the competition. "It's a competitive marathon where winners will earn some thing from 10kms to 42km"

The Coffee Marathon will also be graced by the Africa Coffee Festival with a concert that will also have East Africa’s legendary artist, Diamond Platinum (Tanzania), Ray G (Uganda), Sister Charity (Uganda), and many more. The event is designed to celebrate and strategize ways to boost coffee cultivation in Uganda, Africa, and globally. 

The Coffee Marathon’s climax will lead to the Africa Coffee Festival in October, a platform endorsed by African Union heads of state. This movement aims to position Uganda as a global leader in coffee production and showcase investment opportunities within the industry. The proceeds are aimed at supporting rural women farmers, the Coffee Marathon blends fitness, purpose, and community spirit.Entry per person is Ug.Shs 30,000 that comes with a kit and a ticket for the music concert.

For starters, the Coffee Marathon is part of a grander vision; It’s a cornerstone of the Africa Coffee Renaissance Chapter 1, initiated by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in May 2024
