Ogwang Signs Regulations as Schools Get Mandatory 15-Sport Requirement  

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Uganda's sports landscape is set for a major transformation as the National Sports Act 2023 officially takes effect today, 14th March, with sweeping changes that will:  

 Key Reforms Now Active  
 District Sports Expansion: 75% of all districts must host nationallevel competitions  
 Federation Crackdown: All sports bodies must register anew – no more "briefcase federations"  
 School Sports Revolution: Every institution required to offer 15 competitive sports  
 Doping Controls: Tighter regulations on substance abuse in athletics  


Grassroots Development: Forces sports investment beyond Kampala  
Talent Pipeline: Schools become mandatory breeding grounds for athletes  
Cleaner Sports: Unregistered federations face dissolution  

  

BEHIND THE SIGNING  
Sports Minister Peter Ogwang finalized the Statutory Instruments yesterday, fulfilling a 2023 parliamentary mandate personally endorsed by the President. The law targets:  
 Underperforming federations (15+ face scrutiny)  
 Elite sport dominance by redistricting competitions
