Kabale Hosts World Athletics Kids Day Celebrations

Kabale, Uganda – The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) today partnered with World Athletics to celebrate the annual World Athletics Kids Day at Kabale Municipal Stadium in Kabale District. The event, aimed at promoting youth participation in track and field, saw hundreds of school children engage in various athletic activities under the theme "Relay Around the World."

Dominic Otucet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation, graced the occasion as the chief guest, emphasising the importance of nurturing young athletic talent. "This day reminds us of our responsibility to develop sports from the grassroots level," Otucet stated during the colourful ceremony.

The highlight of the event featured children competing in relay races symbolising this year's global theme, which focuses on international unity through athletics. The theme will culminate in China this weekend during major youth athletics competitions.

Participating students from various schools received certificates of participation and encouragement to pursue athletics. In a symbolic gesture, organisers planted trees at Kigezi High Primary School grounds, marking Kabale's commitment to environmental conservation alongside sports development.

The World Athletics Kids Day, initiated to popularise track and field among children worldwide, successfully achieved its objectives in Kabale, with organisers already looking forward to hosting the 2025 edition. The event concluded with pledges from local schools to continue supporting youth athletics programs throughout the year.
