President Museveni recognised at CAF Awards 2025 in Morocco

Men’s Player of the Year: Achraf Hakimi (Paris St-Germain & Morocco)

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President’s Outstanding Achievement Award has been bestowed upon the Presidents of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to African football.


Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, Kenya's President William Ruto and Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan were honoured during the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco.


Each leader received a CAF Awards plaque for strengthening football structures and supporting major continental sporting programs.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe commended the East African leaders for their exceptional commitment to advancing football development on the continent.
This prestigious award highlights President Museveni's dedication to Ugandan and African football, infrastructural development, inspiring a new generation of players and fans!
The three East African countries recently hosted a successful CHAN 2024 tournament under the Pamoja Umbrella, and preparations for the AFCON 2027 have taken shape as well.
On the same night, Morocco and Paris Saint Germain full back Achraf Hakimi was announced the African player of the year 2025
The defender was crowned at the prestigious ceremony in Rabat, Morocco, beating Egypt and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray in Turkey.
Hakimi helped Morocco qualify for the 2026 World Cup unbeaten and also navigate the Afcon 2025 qualifiers with no defeat, won the UEFA Champions League, and Ligue I with PSG.
After missing out on the last two editions’ award, he becomes the first Moroccan to clinch the prestigious award after compatriot Moustapha Hadji in 1998.
“It’s really an honour for me to win this prestigious trophy,” he said. “This trophy is not just for me – it is for all the Africans who have dreams.”
On a dominant night for Morocco, Ghizlane Chebbak won the women’s prize, beating Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Atlas Lionesses team-mate Sanaa Mssoudy.
The winners are voted for by a panel of experts, which includes members of Caf’s technical committee plus African media professionals, players and coaches.
The Morocco U-20 national team also won the Men’s Team of the Year. Goalkeeper Yassine Bonou won the goalkeeper’s award, with Watford youngster Othman Maamma and ASFAR’s Doha El Madani winning the young men’s and women’s player of the year award.
DR Congo and Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele was recognised as the Interclub Player of the Year, while Cape Verde’s Bubista, for leading the Sharks to their first ever World Cup, won the coach of the year award.

Men’s Interclub Player of the Year: Fiston Mayele (Pyramids & DR Congo)
Men’s Young Player of the Year: Othmane Maamma (Watford & Morocco)
Women’s Young Player of the Year: Doha El Madani (AS FAR & Morocco)
Goal of the Year (voted for by fans): Clement Mzize for Young Africans vs TP Mazembe.
The women’s coach of the year, interclub player of the year and club of the year will be announced after the culmination of the ongoing 2025 Women’s African Champions League.
