KCCA Garbage Trucks Stuck on Buyala-Namwabula Road After Heavy Rain Damages Route
Muduuma, Mpigi District — Several garbage trucks belonging to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) are stranded on the Buyala-Namwabula road after heavy rainfall severely damaged the route, making it impassable. Â
The downpour earlier this week caused significant erosion and flooding, leaving the road in poor condition. As a result, KCCA’s waste collection trucks, which use this route to transport garbage, have been unable to move, disrupting waste management services in the area.Â
Repairs Underway, But Delays Persist Â
Local authorities in Muduuma Sub-county, Mpigi District, have acknowledged the issue, stating that repair works are ongoing but have been slowed by persistent muddy conditions. The damaged road has also affected other motorists and residents who rely on the route for daily transportation. Â
Kizito Vicent, the Presidential Advisor on Mobilisation, has called for immediate intervention to restore the road and ensure smooth waste collection operations. He emphasised the need for emergency road repairs, coordinating with KCCA and Mpigi District officials to expedite restoration efforts, temporarily redirecting garbage trucks to avoid further delays in waste disposal, and engaging local leaders to assist affected residents and minimise disruptions. Strengthening disaster response systems to prevent future road damage during heavy rains. Â
Â
Local business owners and commuters have voiced concerns over the prolonged road closure, citing increased transportation costs and delays in goods delivery. Some have urged the government to prioritise durable road construction to withstand extreme weather conditions. Â
Authorities assure the public that efforts are being made to reopen the road as soon as possible. Meanwhile, KCCA is exploring alternative waste disposal methods to prevent garbage pile-ups in affected areas. Â
Residents remain hopeful that the repairs will be completed swiftly to restore normalcy. Â
