Storm Wreaks Havoc in Three Villages of Malongo Sub-County, Lwengo District  

LWENGO – A devastating storm has left a trail of destruction across three villages in Malongo Sub-County, Lwengo District, displacing families and destroying homes and crops. The affected villages of Lwemiyaga, Lwentale, and Kiganda now face dire humanitarian conditions as residents struggle to recover from the disaster.

Uganda is mourning the passing of former Minister and seasoned politician Mary Karooro Okurut, a prominent figure in the country’s political and literary circles. The news was confirmed by State Minister for health in charge of Primary Health Hon Margaret Muhanga, who is a close friend and fellow politician, who announced the death in an emotional tribute on social media.

“With so much pain, grief, and sorrow, I announce the death of my bosom buddy Mary Karooro Okurut,” Muhanga wrote. She described Okurut as her literature teacher, mentor, confidant, and “world,” adding that her death was a sting she would never forget.

Mary Karooro Okurut served the country in various capacities, including as Minister of Information and National Guidance, and later as Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister. Known for her eloquence, dedication, and advocacy for education, she also had a celebrated career as a writer and literature teacher, shaping the minds of many young Ugandans.

Her passing marks the end of a remarkable journey in both politics and academia. Tributes are pouring in from across the country, with many remembering her as a trailblazer, a committed public servant, and a passionate educator.

Details about the cause of her death and burial arrangements are yet to be announced.

President Museveni initiated the repatriation of Ugandan nationals stranded in South Africa.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the chairman of NRM in the country, has initiated the return of Ugandan nationals stranded in South Africa where they were facing challenges without jobs. President Museveni, in his office at The Office of National Chairman located in Kyambogo, directed Hadijjah Namyalo, head of the office, to start repatriating Ugandan nationals stranded in South Africa.
