CDF Issues 11-Month Deadline for Completion of New MODVA Headquarters

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued a direct order to the UPDF Engineers Brigade to complete the construction of the new Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) headquarters within the next eleven months.

The directive came on Thursday during General Kainerugaba's inspection visit to the construction site, where he conducted a firsthand assessment of the ongoing project. Currently, the two main buildings that will form the nerve centre of the nation's defence administration are reported to be nearly 50% complete.

During the tour, the CDF was briefed by the project engineers on the progress made, the challenges encountered, and the strategic timeline for the remaining phases of construction. Impressed by the quality of work but emphasising the urgency of the mission, General Kainerugaba called for an accelerated pace to meet the new deadline.

The Chief of Defence Forces urged the UPDF Engineers Brigade to expedite the construction works and ensure that the two buildings are completed within the next eleven months," a statement from the UPDF following the visit confirmed.

The new MODVA headquarters is a flagship infrastructure project being undertaken by the UPDF's own engineering corps, showcasing the force's growing technical capacity and self-reliance. The modern complex is expected to provide a consolidated and state-of-the-art working environment for the strategic planning and administration of Uganda's defence and veteran affairs.

The CDF's deadline underscores the strategic importance the Uganda People's Defence Forces places on the project. Its timely completion is seen as critical for enhancing operational efficiency, improving coordination, and providing a dignified workspace for the personnel who oversee the nation's security.

The UPDF Engineers Brigade is now expected to mobilise resources and streamline its operations to meet the CDF's directive and deliver the project by mid-2025.
