In a significant move to bolster national security, the Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held a high-level meeting with Mr. Nyombi Thembo, the Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), on Thursday.
The meeting, which took place at the SFC Headquarters in Entebbe, focused on critical strategies to strengthen the protection and resilience of Uganda’s communications infrastructure.
The discussion centred on enhancing collaborative frameworks between the military and the national communications regulator. Key areas of focus included safeguarding vital digital assets, preventing cyber threats, and ensuring the continuous operation of communication networks during emergencies.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba emphasized the strategic importance of treating communication systems as critical national infrastructure. In an era where security challenges are increasingly digital, securing these systems is paramount to national sovereignty, economic stability, and public safety.
"The reliability and security of our communications networks are inseparable from our national security," Gen. Kainerugaba stated during the meeting. "This collaboration is essential to proactively address vulnerabilities and ensure we are prepared to counter any threats.
On his part, Mr. Nyombi Thembo affirmed the UCC's commitment to working closely with security agencies. He highlighted the need for a coordinated approach to develop robust protocols for threat detection, information sharing, and rapid response to potential attacks on digital infrastructure.
