Police Investigate Mob Killing of Two Suspected Thieves in Mukono

Police confirmed that the motorcycle and the three stolen goats were recovered from the scene. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

MUKONO, UGANDA – Police in Mukono District are investigating a mob justice incident that resulted in the deaths of two suspected thieves. The event occurred in Bumbajja Village, Kiyoola Parish, Nakisunga Subcounty, in the early hours of September 17, 2025, at approximately 2:15 am.

The deceased has been partially identified. One is Mayanja, a 27-year-old resident of Gamba Village, Kitente Parish, Nakisunga Subcounty. The identity of the second individual remains unknown at this time.

According to preliminary reports, the two men were intercepted by residents while allegedly in possession of three stolen goats. They were transporting the animals on a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDZ 132/D. The goats are reported to have been stolen from Shibabani Ibra, a resident of Gamba Village, Katente.

An attempt by the suspects to flee was met with pursuit by the residents, who subsequently caught and beat them to death.

Authorities at Kisoga Police Station have registered a case of murder by mob. The police have documented the scene and collected statements from witnesses, including the owner of the stolen goats. The police response unit was dispatched on two separate occasions after receiving information about the mob's violent actions.

The investigation is ongoing.
