Violence and Chaos Disrupt Youth Elections in Mukono as NRM and NUP Clash

Naluvule, Nakisunga (Mukono District) – The election for youth leaders at the subcounty level in Nakisunga, Mukono District, turned violent as NRM and NUP supporters clashed, leading to chaos, intimidation, and allegations of vote manipulation.

Christopher Mwase (NRM Vice Chairperson for the area) and other party leaders allegedly interfered with the voting process, intimidating youth candidates.
NRM officials were accused of bribing voters and blocking NUP supporters from participating.
NUP supporters retaliated, leading to physical confrontations and disruptions.

NUP members stood guard to protect their candidates but faced violent resistance. Stuart Katenda (elected Deputy Youth Chairperson) and Mathias Balukusa condemned the harassment and unfair tactics used against them.

Ronald Sekatte, who initially ran as an independent/NUP-leaning candidate, switched allegiance to NRM mid-election and was declared the winner.
Owen Wayirise (NUP) lost the position, sparking accusations of betrayal and foul play. Sekatte defended his move, saying: "I was elected based on merit, not party affiliation."

Winners vowed to serve all youth fairly, but losers demanded investigations into electoral malpractices. NRM leaders denied wrongdoing, blaming NUP for instigating violence.
