The Democratic Party Youth League, also known as the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), is proudly represented at the 2025 Young Democrat Union of Africa (YDUA) Conference currently underway in Rabat, Morocco. Hon. Sayuni Hellen, the current UYD President, and Hon. Ismail Kiirya, her predecessor, are attending the continental gathering on behalf of Uganda’s oldest political youth wing.
The week-long conference, which kicked off on June 22, brings together youth leaders from centre-right political parties across the African continent. UYD is expected to present a comprehensive report detailing its recent activities, achievements, and opportunities it has created to benefit young people within the Democratic Party.
The presentation will also outline UYD's ongoing efforts to nurture leadership, promote democratic values, and enhance youth engagement in Uganda's political space.
In the spirit of shared learning and collaboration, each youth wing attending the conference will deliver a similar report. UYD looks forward to engaging with its counterparts to learn best practices and successful models that can be adopted and implemented within the Democratic Party to further youth development and party growth.
Among the youth wings represented at the conference are the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Instiqal Party of Morocco, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) of Uganda, Democratic Party of Kenya (DP Kenya), UNITA Party of Angola, Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) of Namibia, and RENAMO of Mozambique, among others.
Themed “Democratising Africa in the Age of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence,” the 2025 YDUA Conference aims to explore how emerging technologies can be harnessed to promote democratic governance, civic participation, and inclusive political processes.
Delegates will engage in panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions to examine the transformative impact of social media and AI on political mobilization, transparency, and accountability.
