Museveni Welcomes 191 Youth From Opposition To Nrm, Praises Their Transformation

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has welcomed 191 youth from Mubende, Kassanda, and Mityana districts who recently crossed from opposition political parties to join the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The group, consisting of 145 males and 46 females, completed a two-week ideological training at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, where they were taught NRM principles, patriotism, and socio-economic transformation.

During a meeting at State House Entebbe, the President commended them for making what he called a wise and courageous decision and pledged Shs 100 million to support their SACCO.

He encouraged them to embrace government initiatives like Operation Wealth Creation, skilling programs, and the Four-Acre farming model to uplift their communities.

Museveni emphasized the importance of transforming livelihoods through agriculture, education, and ICT, noting that fish farming alone can earn up to Shs 80 million per acre annually.

He highlighted Uganda’s growing manufacturing and service sectors, pointing out that over 1.2 million Ugandans are now employed in factories and about four million in tourism and transport.

Commissioner Hellen Seku from the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps thanked the President for supporting the youth and confirmed their training included civic responsibility, environmental protection, and health awareness. She cautioned them about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and urged them to be responsible citizens.

Col. Okei Rukogota, Director of NALI, also praised the President for his continued focus on empowering the youth and commended the training team for their dedication.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Mutumba Byakatonda, a youth leader and councilor from Mubende Municipality, admitted that many of them had been misled by opposition ideologies but had now experienced a mindset change.

He thanked President Museveni and the NALI team for guiding them and announced plans to form a SACCO to boost income generation in their communities.

Byakatonda also requested government support in the form of coffee seedlings and reaffirmed their full commitment to the NRM. He said the group would return to their districts as ambassadors of transformation, ready to promote development and unity under the NRM banner.
