KAMPALA — In a ceremony held at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, State Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Princess Persis Namuganza, has been recognised by the United States government. The award, presented in 2025, commends the Minister for her longstanding and courageous advocacy for the freedoms of oppressed people across Africa.
Â
A delegation of senior officials attended the event, sent specifically from the United States to confer this honour upon Minister Namuganza.
Â
Â
According to sources, including Prof. Dr Madhu Krishan, this particular award is not given lightly or to many individuals. Its presentation signifies recognition of exceptional character and service to humanitarian causes.
Â
Reports indicate that the journey to this award began following a visit to Uganda by Prof. Dr Madhu Krishan. After meeting with President Yoweri Museveni, the Professor was impressed by President Museveni's praise for Minister Namuganza's dedicated service to the nation. This prompted the professor to begin independent research into Namuganza's work.
Â
The research focused on her compassion for vulnerable Ugandans and her fearless dedication to assisting the less privileged. Upon returning to the United States, Prof. Krishan submitted a formal recommendation that Minister Namuganza was a deserving candidate for high recognition.
Â
Subsequently, a U.S. committee conducted its own review and investigation, ultimately concluding that she had indeed earned the right to receive this award.
Â
Prof. Dr Madhu Krishan is him self a distinguished award recipient, having been honoured in 2014. A renowned scientist of Indian origin, he is celebrated for his significant contributions to scientific discovery and currently resides in the United States, where he continues his work.
Â
Â
Upon receiving the award, Minister Namuganza expressed profound gratitude to God for being selected in 2025. She also extended deep appreciation to the United States government for the valuable recognition.
Â
In her acceptance remarks, the Minister conveyed New Year's wishes to the people of Uganda. She urged citizens to support President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming elections, emphasising the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the country.
