President Museveni to Meet Traders Over Market Compensation

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will meet with traders whose merchandise was confiscated in city markets tomorrow to address their compensation. This has been confirmed by the Minister for Kampala, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda.

Minister Kabanda met with some of the affected traders in Kabuusu and requested that they formally inform her of all their challenges before meeting the President so that the government can find a lasting solution.

In this meeting, the traders explained that they are currently in a state of confusion after their goods were seized. They stated that they are now facing immense hardship and are unable to recover their investments, having lost everything in the operations.

These traders also raised concerns about a committee that was formed, led by KCCA, to investigate their issues. They claim the committee has not performed its duties effectively and has produced an incomplete list of traders entitled to compensation. Currently, only traders from six arcades are listed as affected.

The traders further emphasised their dire situation, stating they have children to care for and outstanding bank loans that are now due, which has made them a subject of ridicule.

The upcoming meeting with the national leader has given these traders a renewed sense of hope.
