President Museveni announced plans to develop the Karamoja region into Uganda’s leading industrial hub.
Â
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially declared that the Karamoja region is on its path to becoming Uganda's leading industrial hub, announcing that the plans for this transformation are already underway. He made this declaration while addressing a campaign rally at Lomugura Primary School playground in Kotido Town Council.
The President was accompanied by his wife, the Minister of Education, Janet Kataha Museveni. The event began with a report from the NRM Chairperson for Kotido, Paul Lochap, who passionately appealed for the construction of better roads to open up markets for the community and connect them with neighboring countries.
Janet Museveni, who also previously served as the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, expressed her deep personal connection to the region, stating that she feels at home whenever she is in Karamoja. She shared her vision of seeing the people rise out of poverty and begin living in dignified, permanent homes. She urged the community to re-elect President Museveni, affirming his unique capability to achieve this goal.
In his speech, President Museveni began by highlighting the peace and stability he has brought to the Kotido area and the wider Karamoja region. He recounted how many people initially fought against his plans to disarm the civilian population, but because he was acting on a righteous mission, he did not listen to them, and Karamoja is now peaceful. He stated that with this newfound peace, the people can now trust him with their money and begin to invest, as Karamoja is full of wealth waiting to be harnessed.
As a tangible example of this industrial promise, the President pointed to the establishment of the Moroto Cement Factory, which was launched after his previous visit to Kotido, signaling the dawn of a new industrial era for Karamoja.
