Parliament's Appointments Committee, chaired by Speaker Anita Among, has initiated the vetting process for newly appointed judges, including Muzamiru Kibedi, who has been appointed to the Supreme Court.
Kibedi has expressed his readiness to serve the country and tackle the significant task of refining and redefining the standards of Supreme Court and the locus of constitutionalism in Uganda.
Kibedi, along with the new Deputy Chief Justice Flavian Zeija, was appointed by the President last week, following recommendations from the Judicial Service Commission.
The vetting process is a crucial step in confirming their positions. In an interview with journalists at Parliament, Kibedi shared his thoughts on his new role.
The current Deputy Chief Justice, Richard Butera, is set to retire in April, making way for the newly appointed judges to take office.
The Appointments Committee's vetting process is expected to be thorough, ensuring that the appointed judges meet the required standards and are fit to serve in their respective positions.
