The National Resistance Movement (NRM), Uganda’s ruling political party, has officially unveiled its comprehensive political road map for the period 2024–2027. This strategic plan outlines key activities and preparations leading up to the 2025/2026 general elections and extends into the subsequent electoral term of 2030/2031.
The road map highlights three major areas of focus and among them include the Election of Party Structures and Flag Bearers, The NRM will conduct internal elections to establish party structures at all levels and to elect flag bearers who will represent the party in the forthcoming 2025/2026 general elections. These elections will also identify candidates for the following 2030/2031 electoral cycle, ensuring continuity and long-term planning within the party.
Launch of the 2026–2031 "Kisanja" Manifesto and Mobilization: The NRM is set to unveil its new five-year manifesto under the theme of the "Kisanja" (term) 2026–2031. This document will outline the party's development agenda, policy priorities, and vision for Uganda in the next term.
The party will simultaneously intensify mobilization efforts for its presidential, parliamentary, and local government candidates. This phase is expected to include nationwide campaigns, strategic grassroots engagement, and mass sensitization to rally support across all regions.
Vote Protection Mechanisms: As part of its strategy to secure electoral victory, the NRM will roll out robust vote protection measures for its candidates at all levels. This includes training agents, strengthening election monitoring systems, and ensuring that votes cast in favor of NRM candidates are protected from malpractice or irregularities.
This political road map signifies the NRM’s early preparedness and structured approach to retaining power through democratic processes. It also reinforces the party’s commitment to transparency, grassroots participation, and long-term policy continuity.
More details on the specific timelines, guidelines for internal elections, and manifesto content are expected to be released by the NRM Electoral Commission in the coming weeks.
