NRM Primaries Update: Disciplinary Actions, Uncontested Seats, and Verification Delays

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, chaired by Dr. Tanga Odoi, has taken disciplinary action on the third day of candidate vetting. Dr. Odoi announced the expulsion of six individuals from the party primary races for failing to adhere to party guidelines.

These aspirants have been barred from contesting under the NRM flag.

In a related development, Dr. Odoi confirmed that seven other aspirants have been successfully nominated to run unopposed for their respective positions. These candidates will receive official NRM party cards and are cleared to proceed directly to the national elections.

Notably among the unopposed nominees is Government Chief Whip and Member of Parliament, Hon. Hamson Obua. His nomination was finalised today without any challengers.

The vetting process saw strong participation from women candidates today. Many were successfully cleared, and they pledged to reciprocate this confidence by diligently serving their constituents if elected.

Verification of aspirants' documents remains ongoing. The total number of candidates finally approved is still undetermined, as the Commission continues processing applications received. Officials indicate the verification exercise is unlikely to be fully concluded within the current month of June.

Several ministers also presented themselves for vetting today. However, uncertainty surrounds some high-profile figures, including prominent supporters of the Prime Minister and others, amid reports they may face replacement in their constituencies. Four ministers reportedly face competitive races against challengers.

Additional prominent government figures and party heavyweights are also undergoing the verification process. This includes individuals closely associated with the Prime Minister's office, with indications that some could lose their positions in the ongoing vetting.
