The National Resistance Movement's electoral commission office in Ntinda, Nakawa Division, was a hive of activity today as the second day of nominations for party flag bearers saw a significant increase in aspirants. Our reporter, Lawrence Kyambadde, was on the ground and filed this report.
Â
The nomination exercise, which commenced yesterday, entered its second day with a notable surge. Today alone, 52 aspirants received nomination papers, pushing the total number of nominees well past the 46 registered on the first day.
Â
The atmosphere at the office was orderly, with no disruptions reported, allowing the process to proceed smoothly as aspirants arrived to secure their positions on the ballot.
Â
Among the prominent figures seeking nomination today was former Kampala RCC, Amiina Lukaanga, who is vying for the Kampala District Woman MP seat. She was joined by Madinah Nsereko, who is aiming to represent Kawempe South.

Â
In a notable development, the current Lubaga Division Speaker, Musa Mbaziira, was nominated to contest for the Lubaga South parliamentary seat on the NRM ticket. However, Mbaziira voiced his concerns, stating that he faces a challenge in convincing the constituents of Lubaga South of his capabilities. He expressed confidence, citing his experience, education, and connections as reasons why the electorate should grant him the opportunity to represent them.
Â
Other NRM members cleared today include Judith Nuwabaine Abaho, aspiring for Makindye East, and former Lubaga RCC Anderson Burora, who is now aiming for the Nakawa MP seat. The party is working to streamline its candidates in these constituencies.
Â
The process also attracted individuals not initially affiliated with the NRM. Susan Kusaba, the former chairperson of Owino Market, picked nomination forms for Kampala Central. Adam Muga Shift, who initially intended for a different seat, also joined the race for Lubaga South, alongside many others who collected forms to represent their respective areas.
Â
The field isn't limited to the NRM. Candidates from other parties, such as Lwamiti Apuli from the Common Man's Party, were also successfully nominated today, showcasing the broad political activity ahead of the elections.
