NRM leaders in Kassanda District plan to boost party support through grassroots engagement.
KASSANDA – Elected NRM leaders in Kassanda District have pledged to transform their constituencies and elevate the party's standing through intensified grassroots engagement. This commitment follows concerns about declining party support in several sub-counties across the district.
Fresh from their victories in the recent party primaries, NRM chairpersons and councillors acknowledged the need to address service delivery gaps that have weakened the party's appeal. "Our sub-counties face numerous development challenges we must urgently address," stated one newly elected LC3 chairperson during a coordination meeting.
Kassanda District's Deputy Returning Officer, Kato Salimu, emphasised the importance of party cohesion during a voter mobilisation exercise. He urged all NRM cardholders, including both winners and losers of the primaries, to unite behind the party's agenda. "Our strength lies in our collective effort to serve the people and maintain NRM's dominance," Salimu declared.
The district comprises 15 sub-counties, with 30 NRM leaders securing nominations for LC3 positions and 180 councillors elected unopposed during the party primaries. However, voter dissatisfaction remains palpable in areas like Bukuya, Mbirizi, Kijuna, Makokoto, Kiganda, and Kassanda Town Council, where residents have expressed discontent with previous leadership.
