NRM Kicks Off Nominations Amid High-Profile Submissions

Uganda's ruling National Resistance Movement has opened its nomination process for parliamentary and district chairperson candidates, attracting top party figures at the Kampala headquarters. Vice President Jessica Alupo led the charge by submitting her nomination papers for Katakwi District Woman MP, urging all aspirants to maintain discipline during the 15-day exercise supervised by NRM Electoral Commission chief Dr. Tanga Odoi.

Speaker Anita Among formally declared her bid for re-election as Bukedea District Woman MP, while Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa seeks to retain his Ruhinda North County seat. The nomination fees—UGX 3 million for parliamentary positions and UGX 1 million for LC5—marked a bustling start to the process that will shape the party's lineup for 2026 elections.

Dr. Odoi emphasised strict adherence to party regulations as the NRM attempts to avoid the internal disputes that marred previous primaries. The exercise represents a critical test for the ruling party's organisational capacity as it prepares to defend its majority in Uganda's next general elections.
